John Cratchley OK...i'm now officially hooked on these stunning compilations that sample the sheer creative energy of the Jazzwerkstatt Bern. A disparate group of musicians coming together for 5 days: experimenting, rehearsing and performing in the evenings. The music is just so vital and energised...free of ego and conflict;just sharing ideas and making brilliant music. Listen and become absorbed... Favorite track: Furry Little Ewok.

about

The Jazzwerkstatt Bern is a musicians' collective. It's a house with many rooms - the members all play together in different ensembles, they've got a big band parked out in the garage that they rev up on weekends, they've got a record label bubbling in the basement and they organize an eponymous festival. The Jazzwerkstatt Bern's raison d'etre is new music: to provide a setting for tis creation and development, to foster the exchange of ideas between artists and to present the results to the widest possible audience. In February of 2010 the Jazzwerkstatt invited roughly 100 musicians from Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the USA over for dinner (so to speak). For five days and five long nights they tinkered, experimented and performed 17 concerts - most comprised of music conceived especially for the Werkstatt, rehearsed in the afternoon and premiered in the evening. This CD represents a sampling of the music created at that epic event. Ladies and gentlemen, we submit for your consideration: the Third Jazzwerkstatt Bern.
